In early summer, Swiss beekeepers living in the mountains surrounding Lake Brienz reap the benefits of alpine wildflowers from which they obtain Swiss mountain honey. Tending beehives is a vital tradition that has been practiced in the Swiss Alps for countless generations. This delightful clock portrays a scene where Barry, the St. Bernard dog, stands guard before a typical Brienz chalet. Two handcrafted beehives—recreations of the design used by the area’s beekeepers—adorn the chalet’s edifice, along with an abundance of colorful alpine flowers. This quartz model is powered by two ‘C’ batteries. The chalet and figurines, hand-carved from locally sourced wood, are made with the same loving care and devotion to detail as our mechanical clocks. There are only two differences between the quartz and mechanical clocks. With the quartz there is no need for winding, and secondly, the quartz clock’s cuckoo sound is a high-quality recording. The weights are for aesthetic purposes and are made of solid iron. The figurines are hand-carved and hand-painted, which makes each one of them original and unique. A manual switch allows you to turn off the cuckoo without interrupting the clock’s movement.
